Poetry should only be

Poetry should only be about love.

We can leave the rest,

The unimportant stuff,

To authors and sad journalists,

For reporting their everyday stories.

Poetry should not waste her rhymes.

Or precious thoughts

On life's mundanities,

But speak only of the rare

journeys of the heart,

That lose all meaning in talk.

Poetry should reveal the unknowable.

Which is all we must know,

To rise above the coarse and common,

And capture the inconceivable,

Poetic expression of our kindred souls.
