THE LONG TABLE | LEONARDO DA VINCI | 2021
Leonardo painted this masterpiece on the wall of the dining room in the refectory of the former Dominican convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie.
It was unfortunately executed in tempera and oil on a gypsum preparation, instead of the standard fresco technique of the era.
It has not stood the test of time. Even before it was finished there were problems with the paint flaking off from the wall.
Over the years it has crumbled, been vandalized, bombed in wartime.
Our restoration is as close to the original as possible... which begs the question:
What happened at The Long Table?
