THE SCREAM | EDVARD MUNCH | 2021

An empty bridge… a walk at sunset...

Suddenly, the setting sun turns the clouds "a blood red" as if an "infinite scream passing through nature” has occurred.

But is the unnaturally orange sky simply the effect of nature, like a volcanic eruption? Or does there lurk some deeper psychological presence, symbolising the anxiety of the human condition?

It has been said of this painting: “Could only have been painted by a madman”.

At some time in our lives, when we scream silently in despair, are we not Crossing the Bridge?
